Explorers Parlor

The parlour is a purpose built room for our 3-5 year olds. It is a huge, open plan room that offers free flow into an enclosed garden. It offers a unique environment which lends itself to effective learning. The space consists of a main room and two adjoining spaces. The main room is host to a very large, well stocked construction area which would excite and inspire any child. It has a range of building materials allowing children to construct for a range of purposes while experimenting with size and shape. The area also has a tool bench complete with real tools and various woods and natural items for children to design and create with. The tool bench is supervised at all times with our experienced staff knowing when to support and when children can take a little risk, challenge themselves and have a go independently. Also in the main room is a messy area where children freely explore, having their own ideas in each area. They explore with colours and marks as they mix their own paints choosing which tools will work best to suit their needs. They develop an understanding of quantity as they follow recipes to create their own playdough. They build up early writing skills and develop muscles in their hands essential for this through squashing dough, leading and joining in with a range of mark making opportunities. As well as constant provisions for sand and water exploration. There is a wonderful home corner where children use real objects to inform their role play, they become involved in each others play building stories and sequences and forming friendships that may last a lifetime.

In the other rooms are spaces where children have their daily registration and group times, a cosy area to share stories and take a well deserved rest if needed and a cloak room and free flow access to toilet facilities.

The hidden curriculum in preschool is full of activities to build on confidence and independence preparing them for school and instilling skills for life. They begin each day with a self-registration which develops early literacy skills and name recognition. In this room the children are encouraged and supported in a self-service breakfast and rolling snack. They head into the dining room for mealtimes where they are taught to use a knife and fork and pour their own drinks.

The children have a morning and afternoon registration as well group times which focus on a range of skills aimed to close gaps, add challenge when needed and prepare children for school.

The Teachers in the room are all very skilled and creative in what they do. The play in the room is always led by the children with our practitioners supporting alongside. They teach new skills and develop a breadth of knowledge on a range of fascinating subjects.

After group time is over the doors to the garden are open and the children have free flow access to the large garden space. The children spend hours engaged in high levels of play supported by their teachers. The garden space offers large tyres and equipment to build and try out obstacle courses while developing physical abilities and confidence. There is a large, well stocked mud kitchen with running taps, a walk in sand pit,a construction area with shovels, real bricks, gravel and wheel barrows. As well as a large space with soft artificial grass perfect for small world experiences, ball games, potion making, mark making and whatever else sparks our children's curiosity that day.

As part of their curriculum preschool offer forest school sessions where children learn to make and cook on the fire, build dens and use tools. They also gain invaluable experiences around the farm and surrounding area, children learn how to care for the animals ask questions about the changing seasons and learn about all of the important jobs the farmers do. They are encouraged to ask questions and always show high levels of curiosity and engagement.

Children in preschool are also exposed to a range of other experiences such as Spanish lessons from Lingo Tots as well as the chance to have horse riding lessons and swimming lessons with plans in action to build our very own swimming pool on site.

Preschool teachers are dedicated to preparing children for school and life ahead equipping them with all the skills they will need. We have excellent links with a vast range of surrounding schools and work together to make the transition period as smooth and easy as possible for all children and their families.
